Our art studios are alive with activity and color, new faces discovering their creative potential and old friends returning to advance their skills. Inside our galleries, fresh art made by established and emerging artists weaves new stories and ideas onto our walls. Outside in ArtsPark, new flowers bloom and new installations pop up everywhere. Summer at the Indianapolis Art Center starts today!
But there is so much more we are looking forward to. With classes, exhibitions and celebrations planned throughout the summer, we promise to make it one for the books!
JUNE 9 - SUMMER EXHIBITION SERIES OPENING - 6-9 PM
Curio Cabinet Group Exhibition, curated by the Art Center’s Director of Exhibitions and Events Kyle Herrington, examines the role of art in inspiring curiosity, mystery, intrigue and wonder. This exhibition features 45 artists exploring the offbeat, the inquisitive and all things enigmatic.
Also opening, Cast Land: Works by Benny Sanders, Shifting Baselines: Emmy Lingscheit, and the annual SMART and SMART+ exhibitions, where the youth and mentors from Starfish Initiative and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana explore complex themes through art.
JUNE 12 - SUMMER CAMPS
Camp Season begins! Young creatives will have an unforgettable summer of high quality artistic experiences with professional teaching artists. Our classes are designed to build skills and expand the imagination, inside our state-of-the-art facilities!
JUNE 16 - INSTALLATION NATION
Primary Colours brings Installation Nation to ArtsPark! 13 different artists will create interactive installations in the trees and on the grounds. The nature of the layout will allow the viewer to experience pieces individually as well as interacting with each other.
JUNE & JULY - POP-UPS
From handmade journals, to glass art and your very own van Gogh inspired masterpiece! Pop-Ups are two hour art adventures in every medium: Lil' Pops, Youth Pops, Teen Pops and Pop-Ups for adults. Everyone walks away with a finished piece of art!
JULY 13 - BILL FOLEY LECTURE - 6:30-8:30 PM
Pulitzer Prize winning photographer, Bill Foley will be giving a free lecture and discuss four decades of traveling the world capturing, photographing and publishing photos.
AUGUST 18 - GET LIT!
The brightest party in Broad Ripple! ArtSparkle, the Indianapolis Art Center’s annual summer party, returns draped in lights and ready to sparkle! Inside, our galleries will be illuminated with neon and dazzling light art. Outside, you will dine on artful food and drinks from exclusive local restaurants and dance the night away to live music. Plan to brighten up the night with a lit-up outfit of your own. Remember we have classes starting all the time! Browse through our catalog and find where your creativity will take you next!
