Your Guide to Earth Day at the Art Center

We are excited to celebrate art and sustainability with you among so many community friends and partners. To help you make the most of this special celebration, we want to share the details of what our staff and community partners have planned for Earth Day

The best way to enjoy Earth Day is by signing up for one of our special Earth Day-themed Pop-Up workshops. We have something for everyone! Whether you join a class or not, come early or stay late, there will be plenty to explore and learn at the Indianapolis Art Center.

Looking for ways to roll up your sleeves?

Earth Day is an occasion to meditate on our lifestyle and work on improving our relationship with our planet. For this day, we are offering a special volunteering opportunity that honors Mother Earth while providing a learning experience. Starting at 11 am, volunteers will help us by participating in trash cleanup and removal of invasive species, such as garlic mustard, bush honeysuckle and winter creeper. This opportunity also includes a tour of ArtsPark with Kevin Harmon, our nature-loving Grounds Supervisor.

Planning to hang out at the Art Center after your Pop-Up class?

Kevin Harmon's knowledge and passion for ArtsPark are inimitable. Join our nature-loving Grounds Supervisor in a guided tour to learn about the history and facts that make our park so special.

Looking for family-friendly activities?

Several of our favorite eco-conscious community partners will be present with activities for the whole family from 11am-2pm:

  • Keeping Indianapolis Beautiful – Are you curious about Indiana native plantsKIB is bringing an interactive visual and tactile display of Indiana flora, as well as more opportunities to volunteer!

  • Friends of the White River – Ever wonder how fly fishing works? It's more than just waving a fishing pole around. Friends of the White River will be doing a demo on the art of fish–tying. You do knot want to miss it!

  • Indiana Humanities – Ignite conversations about Indiana's future with Indiana Humanities' Next IN Campfires program. The program pairs nature and literature for adventures you can’t find anywhere else. Stop by their booth and find out how you can participate!

  • Bee Pioneering – Bee keeping is also about bee sharing. Learn about how Hoosier bees are living and thriving thanks to this ancient practice. Get some honey and soap while you are at it.

  • Hoosier Canoe and Kayak Club – New and aspiring paddlers can feel safe after this helpful demo. What happens when you hit a dam? Instead of experiencing dangerous thrills in person, come see a scaled recreation of this common risk.

  • Teen Arts Council – You don't need brushes or tubes for this art activity! Join the Art Center's resident cool kids in finding inspiration through Andy Goldsworthy's art. With ArtsPark as your canvas, the creative possibilities are endless!
